I am an experienced certified TEFL teacher, specializing in preparing high school exchange students for their year in the US. I also work with adults and teens working to improve their English through general or conversation based lessons. I am based in North Carolina, US (Eastern time zone GMT-5).Currently scheduling classes Monday-Thursday.
Courses and Classes
Future Exchange Student Course:After working with exchange students and English language learners for several years, I decided to create this short course to help prepare future exchange students coming to the US. It covers a lot: culture, accents, preparing for American schools, and of course language. This course consists of: PDFs, conversation practice, and self-work (work you do on your own/homework).So what do you, a future exchange student, get out of this course?
Knowledge from the PDFs.
Confidence in spoken English from the conversation practices.
Self Discipline and writing practice from the self-work activities (essentially: homework).What to expect:
Weekly conversation lessons (via Zoom), where we can discuss anything and you can ask all your exchange related questions, for eight weeks.
Weekly PDF documents focusing on exchange related different topics.
A list of action items to keep you practicing English and to get you excited for your exchange.
Any information (PDF) updates will be shared until your exchange is over.
Possibility of group chats, depending on the amount of students enrolled.
Group video conversation lessons will also be made available (also depends on the amount of students enrolled).Cost:

Conversation Classes
Need to practice speaking and listening? Conversation lessons are great for general practice and are more low key than general English lessons. Conversation lessons help you learn and improve your English speaking skills, including fluency and accuracy. We can either let conversation naturally free flow, focus on a topic to increase vocabulary in a specific area, or we can discuss an article/video/podcast. You get to choose how your lesson is run, I am here to help you build vocabulary and correct any grammar mistakes. This is for students with an English level of B1 or higher.$20 USD per hour

General English Classes
General English lessons to help you learn and improve your English skills, including: speaking, listening, and reading. First we will talk about what your English language needs are and how you prefer to learn. I use a variety of materials, including: worksheets, reading and discussion, images and discussion, slides, videos, and audio. Homework is optional for these lessons, you decide in the beginning if you want homework. This is for students with an English level of B1 or higher.$25 USD per hour

About Me
My name is Heather, I am from North Carolina, US (on NYC/East Coast US time/GMT-5). I have a History degree with a minor in International Studies from Old Dominion University. I am an experienced certified TEFL teacher, I used to work in travel and have traveled many places myself. I love learning about other cultures and countries. I host and coordinate high school exchange students and help them with their English, school subjects, and experiencing the culture in the US. I also love animals, reading, Halloween, and watching movies/series.My Favorites:
Books: The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien, The Night Tiger by Yangsze Choo, and The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman.
Movies: Pirates of the Caribbean, The Day After Tomorrow, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, and Defiance.
Series: MASH, Gilmore Girls, Supernatural.
Places (I've been): Savannah, GA; Greece, anywhere on the Caribbean Sea.
Food: Tacos, most cheese, Crema Catalana.
Hobbies/Activities: wood turning, reading, going to the beach.
